Profile
Praba Ram has an undergraduate degree in Management Studies from BITS Pilani, and a Master’s in Public Policy from the University of California.
She is also the founder of the kid-lit blog, Saffron Tree, an award-winning site that recommends and reviews books from India and the US. A reading specialist, an early literacy advocate and a children’s writer, Praba believes in the power of books and the positive manner in which kids are impacted, if introduced to books in the early years of their lives.
In the US, Praba volunteered as a Story Time Facilitator, for a reading programme in Virginia, for children with limited access to libraries. In the 2 years that she spent there, she planned several fun, read-aloud programmes on a variety of themes, which always delighted children. Praba has co -authored 11 books for children, both fiction and non-fiction, with well-known publishers like Tulika, Karadi, Pratham Books and Mango Books.
She also conducts art appreciation workshops, story hours and book clubs in neighbourhood schools and for children in her vicinity in Chennai. Having moved with her family from the East Coast of the US to the East coast of India, she is happy that her two daughters are being raised in the culturally rich, but rather uncomfortable, weather of the city of Chennai.
